No, bumbles are indeed not only caused by wire, but wire helps even more to make a bumble.

I would never let my rats live on wire because I believe that it is very uncomfortable for their little feet. Nevertheless I've already had some rats with bumble feet and I can tell you that this is absolutely terrible. Most rats that are too fat get bumble feet.

This was Bumblebee's foot (I got her from the rat rescue and she already had bumble feet, so I called her Bumble Bee)

This is Zuma's bumblefoot. I've been to the vet with her a couple of times but we can't help it, the bumble is very persistened.

I even had to let my poor Jerry go because the bumble foot infected the whole leg... it was terrible.

Maybe you know some tricks and you have some tipps for me... I'm very interested 'cause Zuma's bumblefoot is getting worse ...

Hi everybody

Are you surprised about the title? German rats because they live in Germany :) I've kept rats since 5 years and today 11 sweet fur noses live in an extra room. They live in a very big special designed cage... have a look yourselves: if you have questions, feel free to ask ;-)

By the way, if I don't answer immediately that doesn't mean that I'm unfriedly, it simply means that I'm sleeping 'cause I live on the other side of the world ;-)

« Result #7 on Jan 3, 2008, 11:27pm »

This is my private homepage about rat care:

www.rat-nose.de

It's a German page but there are many quite cute pictures ;-)

I'm already working on an English version, but this is easier said than done.

My husband's band www.lanfear.eu (for all the Metal-heads out there ;-) )

Am I allowed to post the German rats forum I am mod at here?

Hey Jen,

They look like they've stuck their paws in the power points! They feel like a rex, but have the fluffyness of the silky, some waves, but give it a few months and i think they'll wave a bit more. I'm going to mate the boy i've kept (WFR That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles) to a good rex to see what happens. Hopefully they'll have softer than usual rex coats with better curls. If i get a good rex from that litter i may mate it to a nice thick coated silky, then the best rex from that back to a rexXsilky...and so on, we'll see how it goes. I'm actually thinking that my CarasilkXRex will produce better coat length than the silkyXrex, and will probably end up using my carasilks for this line and outcross to a silky every so often. We'll see! :)

wow! Expensive ratties.

My boys haven't cost me anything, aside from the necessary care/housing/toys etc.

My two are invincible. They've both launched off the desk and wacked into the side of the tv cabinet (no damage), both have fallen off their cage onto the floor during a mock battle (no damage), Anubis (god knows how he did this) got his head stuck between two bars of the cage (no damage, just a wounded ego), Rameses bit his own tail thinking it was Anubis' and made it bleed, but it cleared up in a day or two with some warm salty water and a lot of pampering...but so far...no major injuries, no illnesses, no tumors/wounds to worry about...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that spends small fortunes on my Ratties. My most expensive rattie is Turbo. First he busted his leg and 3 days later it was still swollen so they had to X-Ray, then of course he needed anti-biotics and Meticam ($115). Then he had complications from a neuter, even though it was done by specialist small animal vet ($115 for the neuter, $150 for the critical care, Baytril and more Meticam) oh and 3 nights of no sleep while I nursed the little guy (he couldn't drink cause he was too weak) and I love him all the more for being such a special little boy and hanging in there:)
