 WFR fuzzlets born 16.03.06
« Thread Started on Mar 17, 2006, 7:00am »

TRP Venus (Silverfawn Self?/mm Berk? Silky) & WFR Mr Teddy Jangles (Mink mm Self/Irish Double Rex) welcomed 9 FAT fuzzies yesterday evening. 5 boys, 4 girls.

Jangles is a superb double rex, not a patch of hair missing, and a huge cow lick in the middle of his back. Very licky in nature, and a very solid boof of a boy.
Venus is a sweet lady with large eyes and a lovely lush coat. She was funny with me going into the nest to clean at first, a pretend bite that was followed by a lick! She's a very attentive mum, but i think she may have been a little overzealous with one of the girls, the end of her tail has been nipped off. (not ringtail)

5 Cinnamon 3 Mink. Rex X Silky, Silky X Standard coats. Wont know markings until they're furry. We will be using this first litter to work towards producing big chunky licky long coated rexes. Jangles mum and dad are two of my best cuddle rats, his dad is my biggest boy.

All enquiries welcome.

Congratulations! Sounds like it's gonna be a squishy litter!

Just thought I'd point out that if your boy is a double rex, ALL of the babies will be single rexes (ie you won't get standard x silky babies, only rex x silky).

That's what i thought too, but one or two of the bubs don't have kinky whiskers, and don't seem to have that wave in their baby fur, they just look like silkieXs. It's interesting the way they've mixed. And they're all cinnamon and mink! Not one Agouti, which i thought we might've gotten a few.

Has anyone else done a double rex to silky litter?

The colours could probably be explained if Venus is really mink and silverfawn, though you'd have to look at her pedigree to find out if that is a possibility. Otherwise it is rather weird!

The only thing that I think would explain not having a ful rex litter is if dad isn't a double rex, just a really good single rex?

He's definitely a double. Here he is:

I did wonder if she may be a mink silverfawn, in Vic nobody seems to use that term. Can you tell from phenotype? In her pedigree she does have fawns and a cinnamon.

I may just have poor rexes in the lot, because of the silky mixed in. What do you think? I'll get some photo's up when their eyes open so you can have a look see. I've never done a silky to double rex, i've done rex to std and rex to rex, and i've seen young silky bubs, but that's it, so it's a new one for me. :)

Tiff - I just came across this again and was wondering if how the babies turned out? Just for my own information.

Hey Jen,

They look like they've stuck their paws in the power points! They feel like a rex, but have the fluffyness of the silky, some waves, but give it a few months and i think they'll wave a bit more. I'm going to mate the boy i've kept (WFR That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles) to a good rex to see what happens. Hopefully they'll have softer than usual rex coats with better curls. If i get a good rex from that litter i may mate it to a nice thick coated silky, then the best rex from that back to a rexXsilky...and so on, we'll see how it goes. I'm actually thinking that my CarasilkXRex will produce better coat length than the silkyXrex, and will probably end up using my carasilks for this line and outcross to a silky every so often. We'll see! :)

Aww! He's a cutie! I see what you mean with the coat description. Thanks for posting that, Tiff!
