So whats the deal now with breeding blue females? I can't find any recent information against it, and i know it's been done sucssessfully. I just need some more information before i decide to do it. My female has a full pedigree with a few blue females in it, if that sez anything.
My plan was to mate my blue girl BTR"Amelia Airheart", a standard blue mm irish, with BOZ"Orkins", a standard agouti well marked irish. I would then keep 1 female agouti irish and one male agouti and mate them together to begin our line of blue agouti irishes. Although, Amelia carries mink (possibley ruby eye too) and Orkins carries black, so we *may* get some other colours to play with too, but probably just agouti and black...
Amelia is 6 months in December, along with 3 other does i'm thinking of breeding, so if i do this one of them will miss out...now i'm just talking to myself...haha, I'll stop now.

The concern with breeding blue girls is the bleeding issue that occured a while back. Blue rats(and other blue animals, supposibly) apparently have an issue with their blood not clotting, so they may bleed to death. I think that is right, I haven't fully researched it.
I bred my blue girl, and it was the cleanest birth I have witnessed! Alot of others have bred blue girls with no problems, I recall one where she died during bith because of a fault with the male, not the fact that she was blue.
I'm sure others will be able to give you more info then I can

I've heard of some blue girls bleeding more than other coloured females during the births.
Apparently there just seemed to be more blood than normal during the whole thing, but that was the only difference.

My experience with Blue female breeding hasn't been very long, only since June. But it might help you a bit I was a little bit concerned about her giving birth, due to the reasearch I had done and found on when Blues were first found there was a problem with Heamaphillia(spellling is more than likely wrong, sorry ), where quite a few girls (and boys for that matter, through injury) had problems with their blood clotting, like hayley has said, and they bled to death But this was when they were first discovered, years ago; and since then with lots of outcrossing and very carful breeding, breeders have succussfully bred Blue litters without the bleeding problems Although, like Hayley said, there has been a case where the girl died during birth, due to fault of the male. My girly(a Blue Hooded), also like hayleys, has a very easy birth with very minimal blood As you know, I have paired Slipper with Pink, which will be my second Blue female breeding I will let you know how Slippers' birth goes when she has her litter (if Pink ever learns what to do ) Cheers, Ashlie

I'm working on a Blue rat article explaining my experiances with the Blue breed and rats from Blue lines.
Ive only ever bred one blue doe, she died in birth BUT it was in no way a "true" Blue rat problem. I bred her to a faulty male who was stuck in his mothers birth canal and caused her to need a c-section, he then went on to do the same thing to two other females. The male is now owned by a friend of mine and we will in no way EVER let him be bred again. How ever i do have two more Blue girls and i do plan on breeding them.
The only real trouble ive had with the Blues is they appear to have increased myco flair ups, anywhere from sneezing to sudden rattling. Even rats from Blue lines seem to do this.
When i reserved my first blue rat last year i googled "Blue Rats" and read all of the articles, i feel anyone looking to own or breed Blue rats should read their past and monitor your future line closely.
