Our sweet clutzy Anya, one of the original Warm Fuzzies duo, must be the most expensive pet rat in Oz (or at least in our mischief!). Less than a week after we'd brought her home with her sister Mooki, we had our first traumatic experience with taking a rat to an all hours vet. She had hidden under a big heavy piece of furniture that was on castor wheels, when we went to move it to get her out we heard a scream - we had accidentally skinned part of the poor things tail...$250 later...she was surprisingly ignorant of the fact that she was dragging around a large clump of bandages and even with the pain of getting it caught on things and having to go back to the vet to have it redone...+$100 for three 5min visits...she never once got nasty with us. She's constantly jumping off things that are way too high to be jumping off, and Friday night she did her stupidest stunt yet - a 5 foot freefall onto a hardwood floor - all because I was dishing out the yoggies! I knew right away she'd broken her leg because she limped over to me foofing like mad, when I picked her up to have a look her back leg had swollen to twice its size! We took her to the vet this morning along with a girl who needed a tumor removed...$500 later...she's now in a cute little rattie splint and is officially our Million Dollar Baby!
A few hours after her surgery. You can see where the very pink part of her tail is the scar. She's pretty happy considring what happend, such a trooper
When she heals up we're going to make her a special "Anya Proof” cage for her and three of her best friends. She's Brett's princess and will live out the rest of her life pampered and very carefully watched!

LOL! I've had various million dollar babies too. First is Stanley who was my first girl, she had a tumor removed $150, then she had 3 vet visits at $40 each (including meds). Then we have my Double Rex boy i paid $60 for him and two weeks after i got him his leg ballooned so we ended up spending $80 at the vet on stuff to get it back down. Although mine don't come close to Anya they're our expensive babies lol!

My most expensive baby was Alda. He, and whoever he was caged with were prescribed baytril 5 times, he disappeared from his cage, I spent 2 days looking for him, when I found him he was chewing on Tiffs green beaded rat (the one I made especially for the RMShow, it's been pre loved and pulled apart by him). He's been on 5 weeks of psittavet, and since the show he was on baby muesli and tinned baby food. I can't blame him for costing me $22 this morning, I did it because I knew he was suffering, I couldn't stand to watch it anymore.

Ok, I may aswell join in telling my most expensive rattie
Harmony, a lovely hooded DU, needed an emergency c-section. All 8 babies were delivered, umm, almost green! And as there was an infection, she had to be spayed. $120 later, we came home with one sore ratty, who unfortunately died only hours later! Mind you, it would have cost me at least twice that at any other vet..god bless my top vet Peter

I'm glad I'm not the only one that spends small fortunes on my Ratties. My most expensive rattie is Turbo. First he busted his leg and 3 days later it was still swollen so they had to X-Ray, then of course he needed anti-biotics and Meticam ($115). Then he had complications from a neuter, even though it was done by specialist small animal vet ($115 for the neuter, $150 for the critical care, Baytril and more Meticam) oh and 3 nights of no sleep while I nursed the little guy (he couldn't drink cause he was too weak) and I love him all the more for being such a special little boy and hanging in there:)

wow! Expensive ratties.
My boys haven't cost me anything, aside from the necessary care/housing/toys etc.
My two are invincible. They've both launched off the desk and wacked into the side of the tv cabinet (no damage), both have fallen off their cage onto the floor during a mock battle (no damage), Anubis (god knows how he did this) got his head stuck between two bars of the cage (no damage, just a wounded ego), Rameses bit his own tail thinking it was Anubis' and made it bleed, but it cleared up in a day or two with some warm salty water and a lot of pampering...but so far...no major injuries, no illnesses, no tumors/wounds to worry about...
